Huawei Launches RuralStar Pro Solution

For improved deployment efficiency of the wireless network, Huawei developed the RuralStar Lite. Recently launched in London, the RuralStar Lite makes it possible to give mobile broadband services to villages with less than 500 inhabitants.

About 750 million people around the world still don’t have mobile network coverage according to a GSMA report. Also, 3.5 billion don’t have internet access. A good number of these people live in remote areas that do not have access to electricity and mobile network. It takes up to 10 years for traditional solutions to recover costs, so most telecom operators are not willing to take their networks to remote areas.

This solution uses high-integration chips to integrate baseband, RF, and wireless backhaul functions into one. Thereby, reducing site dependence on infrastructure.

It takes only two solar panels for RuralStar Pro to power an entire site. This reduces power consumption and lowers the weight of the base station by a significant distance of almost 550 kilograms. It also reduces the civil engineering work thus, ensuring simplified delivery.

3 to 5 years still remains the return on investment (ROI) period for operators. This is if they are providing mobile broadband services to rural areas with a population smaller than 500.

RuralStar Pro improving lives around the world

RuralStar Pro is improving the lives of people living in remote areas by enabling remote education, inclusive finance, and other digital social services.

President of the Wireless Site Domain of Huawei’s Wireless Network Product Line, Hao Yingtao said,

“Due to low ROI in the rural network market, operators and equipment vendors have been very cautious with their investments”.

“Huawei is committed to bridging the digital divide and promoting digital inclusiveness, and has never stopped investing in connecting the unconnected.”

“Through technological innovation, RuralStar Pro can effectively reduce power consumption, simplify sites, and reduce network construction costs. It will play a huge role in improving the accessibility of rural networks. Huawei will continue innovating and doing its utmost to bring digital to every corner around the world.”

Huawei has always committed itself to bringing digital to every person, home and organization.
